Woodfords Inn

Branding & Website Design

Spring 2020

Background

Woodfords Inn is a small inn in the Sierra Nevada mountains near Lake Tahoe. In early 2020, their new owners decided to completely revamp the inn’s appearance both physically and digitally.

They reached out to me and presented their need for new branding and a new website to go along with their renovation.

New Branding and a New Website to Go Along With a New Look

Why change something that’s already great?

  • Woodfords Inn already had a great logo, they just didn’t know it.

  • Recreating the original sign = a fantastic new logo

Sometimes the best logo is the one you already have.

Woodfords Inn already had a great logo, they just weren’t using it. During the process of restoring the property, the new owners repainted the original sign to match the rest of the buildings. When I saw it, I knew it was the best possible logo for the Inn. It’s iconic, clean, and recognizable.

With a bit of work I was able to recreate the sign digitally so that it could be used in print and on the web.

Variations Are Important

An all-white variant works great against dark backgrounds for print and web use. The full-color logo is best on white backgounds.

Colors

Consistency is crucial when creating branding. To help everything feel cohesive, I used colors from the buildings themselves.

A Focused Purpose

Your website should be focused to guide your visitor to the actions you want them to take. For example, on Woodfords Inn’s website, the owners wanted visitors to visit their booking page.

The actual website is one single long page with several sections describing the Inn, the location surrounding it, and pertinent information. Plenty of opportunities to book a room are provided throughout the site while the user peruses.

The website is rich with photos and videos to really showcase the Inn and all it’s ammenities.
